Goal Setting - The Feelings Behind Setting Goals

This is a guest post by Paula Harvey, of Designing A Passionate Life

Designing a passionate life includes setting intentions or goals. I've always thought of goals as typically an outward, visible outcome that can be measured. When you decide to design and live a passionate life, you need to set goals.

Step 1: Answer the question: What do I want to accomplish? Make your goal something tangible to aim for so you know when you have arrived because you can measure the results.

Step 2: Answer the question: How will I feel when I have achieved my goal?

By tapping into this feeling you are strengthening your commitment (the inner drive) to achieving that goal. Tapping into the energy behind the goal helps you to focus on the action you need to take.

Step 3: Answer the question: What action supports what I want to feel? You want to use the feeling behind your goal to move you towards your goal. This is where focusing on your passion is extremely important. When you connect with the energy behind your passion, the actions come easily. In my experience, when I use this frame of reference, the actions rarely seem hard or difficult. On occasion, if they do, I simply connect to the energy of my passion and I can easily take action.

Often, people don't set goals because they are

Warning Signs Of A Passionless Life

This is a post from guest blogger Paula Harvey, author of Designing a Passionate Life

Designing a passionate life that is aligned with those passions is the secret to a life filled with joy and fulfillment. How to change from a passionless life to a life overflowing with passion begins with self-reflection of your life as it is today.

To start the self-reflection process, take the following personal inventory and find out how much passion you have in your life at this moment. How many of the following questions do you answer yes to?

    1. Has life become routine?
    2. Is the zest for life gone?
    3. Do you live for vacations and weekends?
    4. From all outside appearances, your life looks wonderful. Do you find yourself wondering why it isn’t fun anymore?
    5. Do you have to literally talk yourself into going to work?

If you answered yes to more than three of these questions then you may be suffering from passion deficit disorder. You have no passion anywhere in your life. You have fallen into a routine because it is comfortable, convenient, and safe. Bottom line, you’ve settled. Don’t beat yourself up, you’re not alone. In a 2005 Harris Interactive Study, 80% of Americans are not passionate about what they do for a living.

Having no passion for what you do in life overflows into all aspects of your life. You do not have the energy to contribute to your relationships and family. You lose interest in the hobbies that you used to love. Friends and family don’t find you ‘fun’ anymore and life feels hard, boring, and routine. It can affect your health. You become old before your time.

Well, the good news is that

Reinvention Is An Act - Not A Destination

This is a guest post from Donna L. Johnson, the SpeakingDiva.

I had the privilege of speaking to a large group of unemployed professionals last week and the talk was centered around reinvention.  I didn’t even know at the time of my talk that reinventyourlifewithpassion.com existed.  However, as Connie Ragen Green would say, “There are no coincidences.”

The message I delivered to my audience resonated with them because I immediately opened up and shared my personal story – a story that closely mirrored their current situation.  I talked about being laid off twice within one year (to no fault of my own) and the uncertainty I felt when I didn’t have a job.  But despite those things, I looked at that time in my life as an opportunity to renew myself and follow my dreams.  Thus, DonnaSpeaks.com was born.  Never again did I want to be faced with having all of my eggs in one basket when it came to providing for my family by having only one source of income.  From that point on I realized that we must adapt a mindset of renewal.

renew (v): to repeat so as to reaffirm; revive; to replenish; to bring into being again, reestablish; to start over.

I’d always known that my life’s purpose extended far beyond corporate

    America

and the titles that others had

Reinventing Your Life To Achieve Personal Success - Success Leaves Clues

Reinventing your life will involve some goal setting on your part. Setting goals and achieving them are two different things. If you truly want success in your life, especially personal success, you must learn from those who have come before you. Success leaves clues, so be willing to spend a few minutes each day reading articles and books written by successful men and women, and listening to audio recordings and interviews from those who are living the lifestyle you want to live.

By making a serious study of the people whose lives and personal success you wish to emulate, you will be on your way to having the lifestyle you are dreaming of. We know that these people think differently from those who have ongoing personal struggles. Once you can begin to think differently yourself, your life will begin in change very quickly.

    For one thing, the

Daily Meditation and Affirmations to Reinvent Yourself

Success comes in many different forms. What you may not know is that there are some keys to success that will almost guarantee you to achieve whatever you want in your life. The main keys are meditation and affirmation. If you have never spent time meditating, or if the idea of meditation does not appeal to you, think about it in this way – Would you be willing to sit quietly every day for fifteen to thirty minutes, if you knew that all of your dreams would come true? If the answer to this question is yes, read on to learn more.

Meditation can be described in many

    Reinvent Yourself With Success

Success is an attainable goal for all of us. We may measure success in different ways, but you know you are successful when you can feel it in every part of your body.

You may be searching for success in health, wealth, relationships, and other areas of your life. This is what I have learned as I have achieved greater levels of success in my own life.

    • I am responsible for my own success. By sitting around and dreaming of what I want in my life, nothing much will happen. When I take action, things begin to change.
    • If you are afraid, as most of us are to some degree or another, that is the very best time to take action. The fear you feel will lift you to the next level of success. I have experienced this personally, so I know that it is true.
    • Write down exactly what you want in your life. Be as specific as possible. What does a great relationship, excellent health, or lots of money look like to you. Do not be vague or you will not get the results you are hoping for.
    • Be a constant learner. Read and listen to as much information as you can. Soon you will be able to distinguish between what is helpful and what is not.
    • Spend some time each morning picturing what your day will be like. Imagine what you will be doing, where you will go, and who you will be with. Keep these images in your mind so that begin to feel more like reality to you.

Follow these steps as you make your way each day. Success is close if you are willing to take the inspired action to get there.

Finding Success And Happiness In Your Daily Life

Success and happiness are two distinctly different things. You may believe that success, either financial or personal, may bring you happiness, this is not always the case. It has now been shown that being happy comes from deep inside of you, and that feeling will bring you success. So what we once thought was true is actually the reverse of what works over the course of your life. Here are 7 ways to combine success and happiness in your life so that you will enjoy every minute of your life and live the life you want and deserve.

    • Look for happiness in the small things, like helping others and doing daily activities around your house.
    • Feel gratitude for everything you already have in your life, and for the people you care about and those who care about you.
    • Spend some time every day in meditation and quiet time to think about the direction your life is taking.
    • Keep a journal of your thoughts and feelings so that you can put into words the way you are feeling each day.
    • Ask others for advice on various aspects of your life. People like to feel they are needed and their opinions are valued.
    • Realize that money is abundant in our world. If you want or need more of it, look for ways to add more value to other people’s lives.
    • Reach out to people who have been there for you in the past. Call them just to say hello, instead of only calling them when you want or need something from them.

Make daily use of these 7 ways to bring happiness and success into your life in a bigger way than you ever have before.

    Reinvent Your Life Through Relationships

As most of you know, I reinvented myself by starting a new career at the age of 50. I now write every day and make my living by teaching others how to write articles, blogs, and write an eBook to build passive income from home.

Recently I began attending live events where many of these people who also work on the internet are speaking. The relationships I have created with these people have been rewarding in so many ways, the least of which is financial. We find that we have so much in common and build a relationship that is sure to last for years to come.

I encourage you to find out where the people you want to connect with are meeting. If there is an annual conference or other gathering, plan on attending it. Our world is growing smaller due to the use of telephones, email, and blogs, but there is nothing that can replace the feeling you have when you meet someone in person.

Achieve Success In Your Life By Reinventing Your Behavior

Achieving success in your life is easier than you may think. I have observed people for many years now, and have noticed some things that separate the wealthy, healthy, and happy ones from those who struggle financially, have ongoing health concerns, and are constantly unhappy about one thing or another. What if you could make a few minor changes to the way you think, behave and feel that would cause you to become healthier, wealthier, and happier? Here are some things to think about as you go through this transformation process.

    • Always be on time. This may sound like a small thing, but it is not. Do whatever you must to be punctual at all times. If something begins at a specific time, plan to arrive ten to fifteen minutes beforehand so that you will not risk being late. Bring something to read or have something to do so that this does not become lost or wasted time.
    • Add one healthy food to your diet and eliminate an unhealthy one. See if you can do this once a month. Your overall health will improve over a period of months. To accelerate this process, walk each day. Start with fifteen minutes and increase by five minutes each week. The combination of diet and exercise will make a huge difference in your physical health, as well as your mental outlook.
    • Look for the good and positive in every person and situation you encounter. We are all just human, so remember that when judging someone for what they have said or done.

Just by making the changes I have talked about here will allow you to reinvent yourself and enjoy the success you want and deserve in your life.

    What Brings You Joy?

If you could do anything you wanted to do every day for a month, what would it be? If money, time, health, relationships, and anything else that gets in our way were not a factor, what is it that you would do every day? How would you spend your time and who would you be with? These are questions that will take some time to answer, because we have all become accustomed to doing what we have to do instead of what we want to do. I challenge you to take some time each day to think about the exact life you want to create for yourself. It can be done - it just takes thought and action on your part to make it happen.

    Give yourself permission to stretch

We reinvent our lives every time we take on a new challenge. By stretching the limits of what you have allowed yourself to do in the past, you are able to do more than you ever thought possible. Give yourself permission to do whatever it is that you have always wanted to do. Maybe you have wanted to start a business, or move to a new city, or make other changes in your business or personal life. No matter what it is, know that you can do it if you believe you can.

I invite you to join me on my free weekly teleseminars. This is my passion and I am now able to share what I know with people all over the world. My next call will be on Tuesday, March 18, at 4 PST, 7 EST. The teleseminar page is up at Great Ebook Writing. Join me if you wish.

    Reinventing yourself by serving others

This weekend I spent two days working at a leadership camp with more than 100 teenagers. It was rewarding because they needed adults to talk to them and to lead them through the various activities. They had breakthroughs that may have taken them years to achieve otherwise.

I had been invited to a conference in San Francisco that I truly wanted to attend. It would have promoted my writing and online marketing efforts, but I had already commited to working with the teens. As I cleaned up the dining hall this morning before leaving, working side by side with the kids I had just spent so much time with, I realized that being of service was more important to me than anything else that I do.

Find yourself and reinvent your life as you spend time in service to others. If you are anything like me, you will see your life so much more clearly after spending time helping others whose lives will be changed forever.

Reinventing yourself after a long absence

If you have been recently divorced or have gone through any type of life change, you may feel like it has been too long ago for you to remember your passion. Give yourself some time to heal and then allow your mind to wander. Daydreaming will get your imagination going and put you on the road to reinventing yourself. You may find that you are easily overcome with emotion during this time. Just let your feelings come out and know that this is all part of the process. Journaling may be helpful and therapeutic during this time. Know that you are headed in the right direction and that you can create the life you want. Knowing what you want may take time, so keep molding your ideas until it feels right to you. You are the only one who can start on this journey ro reinventing yourself when you are ready; no one else can do it for you.

    How Do You Define Success?

Success is defined differently by everyone. You may be more interested in pursuing financial success, whereas someone else may find more personal joy with relationship and family success. However you define it, success will remain elusive unless you take the time and effort to pursue it.

Part of reinventing yourself is figuring out exactly what you want from your life experience. Most people do not get what they want from their life because they have never spent the time defining exactly what it is that they do want.

Give yourself the gift of time everyday just to visualize, imagine, and daydream. Think about what your perfect day would be and then pretend that it is that way in reality. The more you do this, the better you will get at knowing what feels right for you at this point in your life.

    Reinventing Yourself Through Journaling

When I started keeping a journal about three years ago I never expected it to change my life so completely. I had always wanted to be a writer, so when I attended a seminar on journaling it was natural for me to start writing every day. Now here I am, writing every day and teaching others to write. You can see what I am doing over at Ebook Writing and Marketing Secrets. My life is filled with joy because I am following the path I was destined for.

I encourage you to keep a daily journal. You may not want to become a writer like I have, but through your writing you will find your voice. Write about how you feel and what you want more of in your life. You can reinvent yourself by writing your way to your goals and aspirations. Also, visit Jeanne May over at Goals and Inspirations. You will be inspired to live in your higher self by reading her work. Jeanne is a true inspiration to me.

    Does Money Lead To Happiness?

Focusing solely on money may lead to emptiness and depression. This is according to Dr. Alice Vlietstra, who tells us that the research shows that community and a deeper sense of purpose are more important than money when you're searching for the "good life".

A more balanced approach to your life may be the answer. Take every opportunity to enjoy each day and seek out new experiences. Knowing what you do want in your life becomes easier when you see the contrast of what you do not want.

Reinventing Yourself When You Don't Have Enough Money

Not having enough money can be a real challenge for many people. We tend to focus more on what we don't have than what we do have, so it becomes a vicious cycle. Focusing on the abundance of what is already in your life is a good starting point.

Start a journal and write down everything you are grateful for in your life. This should include both living things, such as the people and animals in your life, as well as the material things that bring you joy, like your home or some favorite personal items.

Read Napoleon Hill's book, Think And Grow Rich. This book was written in 1937 but still has relevance today. I only recently learned that this book was edited drastically before it was published. The publisher though that much of the book was too far removed from the thinking of the people at that time. You can get the entire story by taking a look at this site. Let me know what you think. I know it is working for me.

Can You Reinvent Yourself At Any Age?

I have been working with a client who is in her seventies. She is writing an ebook about the years she spent teaching in the public schools in Los Angeles. Her ebook is almost finished and she still hasn't done some of the things I teach my other students. She doesn't have a blog and she doesn't want to get any publicity for what she is writing about. Her reason? She told me that she is just too old for that.

I do not believe anyone is too old to follow their dreams and live their life with passion. That is just an excuse that we give ourselves when we are afraid. We convince ourselves that we are too old, too young, too fat, too poor, too unworthy, etc. But that is just not true. Don't allow limiting beliefs to stop you from reinventing yourself and doing the things you dream of accomplishing. You can do it if you take that first step in the direction of your passion.

Reinvent Your Life By Examining Your Emotions

We are responsible for the way we feel. Many of us do not like to hear that because we want to blame someone or something for what is going wrong. Instead, see how you feel. Express the feeling in words so that you can name the emotion that is coming out. Just identifying the feeling is a good place to begin.

Now, reach for a better feeling thought. If you are angry, reach for resentment. If you are feeling hopelessness, reach for overwhelm. Each step will bring yu closer to joy, but you will not be able to do it overnight. Take the time each day to check in with yourself and work on moving up to the better feeling thought. You can do it.
