With the new year upon us it is time to think of how you can be good to yourself. Thinking of others and putting them first is a noble gesture, but you will be able to help other people much more easily if you take care of yourself first. You can reinvent your life by following these 7 steps:
- Take time just for yourself every day. Find a time when you can be completely alone and relax. It may have been a long time since you did this, so try to remember back to when you last took the time to do something that you love to do. It may be reading a book, meditating, writing a letter, spending time with your pet, or any number of things. Work on giving yourself one full hour each day to do what you enjoy.
- Get enough sleep every evening. You know how much sleep your body needs so that you feel rested the next day. A power nap is alright once in a while, but getting the number of hours of sleep that your body requires will make you feel better, happier and more efficient.
- Eat healthy foods. Avoid sugar, white flour, dairy products, tobacco and alcohol as much as you can. This will keep your immune system strong and give you more energy.
- Walk or do other vigorous exercise every day. This will help your blood circulate and flow through your brain, making your mind sharp and alert.
- Show gratitude to someone else. Write a short note, make a phone call, or tell someone what they did was meaningful to you. Just spending a few minutes each day telling someone how much you care can enrich both of your lives.
- Allow yourself to daydream. Think about what you really want in your life. Picture it as though it was already a part of your life. You can do this through meditation or simply by letting yourself daydream every day.
- Write down your thoughts and feelings. Keep a journal that you can turn into short articles. Eventually you will have enough for a book. Writing every day will help you to get ahead in many areas of your life, and will certainly make you feel powerful and in control of your life.
